It's almost the end of January! I can't believe it.
I also can't believe the number of page views that this non-promoted blog has gotten. I fully intend on expanding on those views and hopefully build up a readership of health and fitness enthusiasts. And also of like-minded people around the world who share the same views or would like to read my views on this SKINNY WORLD of ours.
Thanks to everyone who's been reading without me knowing.
I am going to make this site amazing and worthy of any readership :)
Peace lovies!

Flat Belly Diet
Alright friends.
I'm back from a short hiatus. Work has been crazy. Life has been crazy. I got sick. And now I'm feeling a little bit better.
Being sick kinda made me think about why I get sick. Lack of vitamins maybe? (I don't think Vitamin Water can help me out there? Anyhow, I think it's going to all come down to nutrition.
I borrowed this book called the 'Flat Belly Diet' by Liz Vaccariello (Editor-In-Chief of Prevention) and Cynthia Sass. Now, I haven't read it all the way through yet, but I get the gist. And once I get some more time to blog (like blog proper) I will be giving all the details of the 'diet'.
So the first part of the diet is a 4-day detox to jump start and ANTI-BLOAT your GI tract (gastrointestinal tract) so that it's better prepared for the diet to come.
Part of the diet is that you have to keep a food journal after each meal and write down your thoughts/feelings etc. Guess where I'll being doing that?! Yup. Right here on this blog.
I will be shopping for the groceries needed for the 4-day anti-bloat tomorrow after work and hopefully will be able to get time to blog everyday about the diet. Apparently you can lose up to 7lbs (3kg) in just 4 days because of the anti-bloating thing!
Also, I hope to report that I'll be back in the gym by Thursday! Almost one and a half weeks of no gym! The hole in my pocket has been burned and I am seriously not going to let anything get in my way now. It's almost FEBRUARY and I need to account for my Resolutions 2011!!
I'm off now to create the grocery list for the 4-day detox.
Peace lovies.

Work: The Newbie Status
If you're like me and have never had a job before, then this post will be for you.
Just to point out that babysitting gigs and giving tuition don't count as jobs. Moving on...
Today, at work too many colleagues, and I really mean too many, kept telling me that they are really impressed by me and that they think "I'm super zai" (to borrow the words of one of my colleagues - zai in Singlish apparently means capable). One even told a boss and told her to request for me to come back after I finish with my training. ('_')
One colleague mentioned that instead of her taking care of me, I'm the one taking care of her. Another mentioned that I'm always so calm and so ready. One even said that if she were in my place, she'd be drowning.
I am truly humbled that they recognize my work ethic and my dedication but it got me thinking - what kind of impression do newbies in the workplace make? Is it really that hard to find hardworking newcomers?
The way I see it, the way you approach your work is how you approach your life. I've always been the type to take the problems that surface head on and deal with them. I don't usually complain (and if I do, you know that I've had enough bullcrap) and I don't usually try to wriggle my way out of things (sometimes I do, but usually for boring social commitments). And I rarely stress. I get irritated, I get pissed, I get overwhelmed, but I rarely get stressed.
With me when a problem or situation arises, I freak out for a second (or two haha), look at the problem, decide how to solve the problem and then draw out the game plan in my head (writing things down helps loads too).
I was also born to a workaholic father. So, I mean, really, I wasn't given much of a chance to begin with.
But anyways, I wanted to offer some helpful advice to people out there who got hit with the NEWBIE status.
1. Never complain. Firstly, it's irritating to others. Mostly it shows that you're ungrateful for the job that you have and that you are calculative. No one likes people that calculate EVERYTHING in life.
2. Give, give, give, give. That's all I've been doing. And I've been doing it without expecting to be able to take.
3. Learn everything you can from whoever you can. I learned this one the hard way. There was a point that I was seriously, honest to goodness, CLUELESS. I had no idea what was happening, I had no idea what I was supposed to do. I couldn't stand it anymore and I just decided that I would ask ANYONE. And ask anyone I did. I was pretty thick-skinned about it too. Anyone tried to be patronizing or condescending, I'd ignore and repeat the question. Think it sounds weird? It got me what I wanted so I don't think it's weird at all.
4. It's not a learning curve. It's a linear equation. With an incredibly STEEP AS HECK gradient. (And that, my friends, is all I remember of linear graphs and y = mx + b. I guess Math is kinda helpful in real life.) Day 1, I knew nothing. Two weeks in and I had to do a full functioning job without much training except for a 2-day crash course in a crowded room and tons of observation of a colleague. I learned on the job everyday. Still learning.
5. Make yourself known to your boss(es). This one I did quite late. But the important thing is not when they know you, it's that they do know you and that you've impressed them with something (asking questions, wanting to learn more, etc etc). I impressed a boss the other day by taking the initiative and asking for something. The boss wrote back about how impressed they were with my initiative and my enthusiasm. It's not kissing ass, it's just reminding them that I'm there too.
6. Smile at everyone. Especially the people that piss you off. Purely because when you smile at people that piss you off, you make them think that you like them. And when people think that someone else likes them, they try to pay more attention to you so that you can like them more. Sounds stupid? Well it worked. I managed to get people who pissed me off to praise me. Oh and for the people who don't seem to like you (yea, we all know which ones those are), smile at them anyways. It pisses them off to see the person they dislike smile at them. So you are being polite and irritating at the same time. DOUBLE SCORE.
That's all I seem to be able to think of for now. If I think of more, I'll post it up here :)
Peace lovelies.

The Right F - Fitness v Fashion
Alright people. Let's get down to it. What's the reason you would lose weight? (Please note that this is a rhetorical question and I don't expect answers. hah!)
Someone out there is probably thinking - What is the difference between losing weight for Fitness or Fashion, when the point is that you're losing weight?!!?
Well, to you I say - you probably don't have weight to lose or have never thought about losing weight so stop reading and go find another blog. Thanks.
We lose weight for fashion if we want to look amazing in clothes.
We lose weight for fitness if we plan on living a longer and healthier life.
The dilemma just got harder.
On one hand, who doesn't want to live longer? On the other hand, who doesn't want to look amazing in clothes?
Here is the opinion that you've been waiting for (I'm talking about my opinion obviously or else you wouldn't be on my blog!):
If you plan to lose weight for the sake of fashion, you're more likely to do just about anything to drop the pounds. You will be more likely to take on crazy diets that encourage detoxes that make you to drink nothing but strange-tasting blended grass-types. You are definitely more likely to think that carbs are the biggest evil since the devil himself and you will be prone to over-eat, partly because you'll be depressed that you're weight isn't dropping as fast as you want it to and mostly because you're not actually eating enough calories for your body to function properly.
If you plan to lose weight for the sake of fitness, that is for the sake of your LIFE, you'll be more likely to do research into ways to lose weight safely. You'll also be more likely to look at both exercise and diet (read: nutrition) as part of changing your lifestyle to incorporate the changes for the better. You'll be accepting of the fact that maybe, once in awhile, you won't really lose as much weight as you want but that just means that you need to work harder and not eat more or binge on that chocolate bar.
Really, it's all about discretion. You want to screw up your system for a month just to drop 5kg or you want to better your system and drop 5kg? Up to you.
Karl Lagerfeld once said, "Fashion is the healthiest motivation for losing weight".
Here's the thing - if you're Karl Lagerfeld and you're designing clothes for these skinny-ass women who pay TOP DOLLAR to wear clothes made by you, then yes, fashion is a great reason (BUT NEVER A HEALTHY REASON) to lose weight. I mean - RULE OF BUSINESS - you are your business. So if you don't look like what you want your clients to look like in your clothes, then you are selling a sack of bullcrap. (Yes, I know Karl is a man. Don't ask that question in your head.) But healthiest? REALLY? Personally, I think the only amazing thing about Karl Lagerfeld is that I bumped into him while in Paris. Other than that, not much. The man pretty much turned the SS'11 Collection for Chanel into a cheap tacky white trash dream. (Read: EW. WTFBBQ). Let's wait for this former FATTY to embrace curvy REAL women before we put him on a pedestal. The guy doesn't take vacations for God's sake.
So if you're planning to lose weight, think long and hard about why you are losing weight. Are you trying to fit into that dress? Or are you trying to improve your stamina and mile-run time (LIKE ME!)? If you're losing weight for fashion, what that says about you is that you don't have enough self-confidence to be able to dress the way you want and wear what you want right NOW. You will probably also think that if you lose weight, your life will seem much better. But it won't (sorry for the harsh reality check). It's like saying your life will get better when you have a boyfriend. It won't. Shit gets more complicated when a guy's in your life and when he leaves, you'll probably be so devastated you can't get out of bed.
I disgressed again.
Point being. Lose weight safely. Don't over-think what you are doing but do put some thought into your plans. And ALWAYS plan how you want to lose weight. Don't just head to the gym and go mad. You could get hurt and overdo something.
Be safe in the gym!

The 5-5-5 Workout
So my 'workout buddy' (yep, that's what she's called now) tried to find a more effective way to do cardio while using gym equipment. And she read that one of the most effective workouts would be to basically pump out everything you've got for 30 minutes without a pause or a break.
10 minute segments on each of these three equipment: the treadmill (classic gym equipment), the elliptical (everyone's biggest nemesis but secretly your best friend), and the exercise bike (I hate the stationary bike. I don't know what it's positives are).
So that means 10 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the elliptical, 10 minutes on the bike. From what I understand that's the order you're supposed to do them in. No pauses, no breaks (drink water while moving between machines!), no slow-downs or cool-downs til the end.
We did our own version of what I'm calling The 10-10-10 Workout - we did The 5-5-5 Workout version. Same deal, just for 5 minutes on each machine.
I was super surprised (and this is why this post is tagged as Resolutions 2011) that I could handle running on the treadmill for 6 minutes at 7.8 speed (who really knows what that means, it's just the number that was there). 6 minutes got me to about 800m. Which meant that if I kept running at the same speed, at the same pace, I would get to 1.6km (aka 1 mile) in 12 minutes.
Yea, yea. It is a pretty sucky time for a mile run but I have not run a mile in the LONGEST TIME. I have the worst stamina, the worst breathing - just the worst everything!!
Anyways. I kinda like the 5-5-5 version of this workout. I think I might try the 10-10-10 version tomorrow after work.
Let's see if I can do the mile in 10 minutes. Else, I better run the mile first and then switch to the other machines :)
Alright. Peace lovelies. It's Friday tomorrow. Get the TGIF banners ready!

It's all about the music!
It's Monday.
I had pretty much nothing for lunch.
I didn't want to workout.
Like seriously, working out was the LAST thing on my mind even though I did bring my workout gear with me to work so that I could just head to the gym after work for SL's 3.30pm KB.
After work. I literally CONVINCED myself that I would just go home and do nothing. I got on the bus and started listening to Like A G6 by Far East Movement. The song just kind made me want to workout. May sound weird, but I wanted to look fly like a G6. No joke.
Anyways. Finally made it to the gym. KB was amazing. I swear, the two times I've been to that class, I feel they've been my best sessions!
I tried to get myself really into but I couldn't. UNTIL.... Kelly Rowland & David Guetta's Commander came on the instructor's playlist. That song PUMPED ME UP! I swear it was a weird feeling. I started singing along in my head and I just got really into the workout.
At one point, Fat Boy Slim's Rockafella Skank played as well! Got even doubly pumped!
Made me realize that the music you listen to, especially when you exercise, can have a serious effect on what you are doing at that moment! It can cause you to speed up, slow down, chill out, push harder.
I am on the hunt for great workout tunes. Any suggestions?
Peace lovelies.

Makeup Fun!
A quick update on the makeup artistry situation.
I had my first lesson/class on Friday night and it was AMAZING.
Being there reminded me even more of how much I love makeup and how much I want to be able to work on makeup being a part of my future career.
I always thought that maybe going to makeup school wasn't as important as the experience of doing makeup but I kinda realized that even as an established makeup artist, you can always go back and relearn the basics. Kinda like the old "learn, unlearn, relearn" cycle. It made me realize that I do want to be trained by some of the world's leading experts in makeup!
For now, I am happy with the Friday night classes (5 more to go!). I will be saving up my dosh in order to begin classes with MUFE in the fall.
Anyhow, quick recap. We were taught how to create a perfect base with foundation, concealer and contouring. I even got praised by the instructor saying that I made my sister's face look really natural and yet made up at the same time!
Life is good right now :) Heading to the library later to pick up more makeup books. Can't wait for my books to arrive in the mail soon!!
Peace lovelies!

Remember Ben?
If you don't remember my post on Ben, click here.
I was innocently watching Fox News the other day and guess what? Ben was on as part of one of them Health/Medicine segments! They were talking about his weight loss and basically how he lost weight just by running!
Kinda jolted my memory about my 2011 Resolutions that I've not been following for the first full week of 2011. :( Well I hope to be able to pick it up again tomorrow. I am going to be bringing my gym clothes to work and I hope to be able to catch the 3.30 KB class.
It made me realize that it's important to have inspiration around you so that you are reminded of your goals and targets.
I also decided to add a 5km run into my goals for this year. I was to be able to run 5km in less than 30minutes. I think it might be a lot of work but maybe if I work on it, by July's Shape Run, I might just be able to pull it off!!
Remember to keep the inspiration around you lovies!

The Rocky Horror Show
I am no longer a 'Rocky Horror Virgin'!
The acclaimed musical graced our shores as part of their Australasian Tour and I count myself lucky to be able to watch it!
I won't be questioning anyone's intelligence with the synopsis of the musical but just know that it is a totally out of this world conceptual plot. Sure you've heard some stuff about the show and you know that it's kinda about Brad & Janet but you will seriously be WOW'd by the whole performance. The cast have amazing voices (and BODIES!) and even though Hossan Leong seemed a little out of place being the narrator, it was an enjoyable show through and through.
One of the highlights of the whole show was us getting a free upgrade of SEATS! We paid for Cat 3 seats in Circle 2 of the Esplanade Theater (pretty good seats!!), but because there were so little people watching the matinee show, they upgraded everyone's seats! We sat in the Foyer Stalls! Amazing seats, we were so amazingly close to the cast (OK, maybe not as close as the front row people but CLOSE ENOUGH to be able to see everything!!). Now I feel as though I should fork out the extra dosh whenever watching a play to be able to have such amazing seats!
And because I seem to be the Queen of Trivial Facts around these parts, here's one for all of you! The motion picture was screened Singas in 2003 but was heavily edited! And that too was after the 30 year ban on the show for it's raunchy themes and costumes! And apparently the musical was in town in 1993 (only 20 years after its debut in London's West End!) but that too was heavily edited!!
Now all I can think about is getting a soundtrack to the musical, getting my hands on a copy of The Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD (if there even is ONE!) and singing along to 'Let's Do The Time Warp Again!'.
Hopefully everyone gets to go out and watch it before it leaves our shores next weekend!
Peace lovelies!
Til the next post!
